I am a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba
(60 miles north of North Dakota and Minnesota). My lineage goes
back to the settlers’ days when America was first being discovered.
My more famous ancestors include Reverend
John Wheelwright and Captain
John Smith. Coming from both proud USAmericans and Canadians,
I consider myself to be a proud North American. I do believe that
Canada is a great place to live, and feel very fortunate to have
been born in such a country; I only dream of grander things.
Looking towards the south (within
100 miles for 90% of Canada's population), I think it is quite
apparent that there is a greater amount of prosperity, a greater
amount of opportunity educationally and commercially, as well as
a more advanced and larger transportation, technology, science,
health, military, and recreational infrastructures.
I do not believe this success is because of a stroke of good luck,
rather the United States is the most prosperous and prominent nation
on earth, not only because of its democratic values, but also because
of its large and diverse Union. It should be self-evident to all
that people are what make a country great. People united in a common
cause are more successful than those divided. Two minds are greater
than one, just as 330 million are greater than 300 or 30 million.
Canada with its sparse population can never achieve the greatness
that the United States has with its 300 million souls. Likewise,
North America will never realize its full potential until the people
of this continent, who once lived united as one people, re-unite
for the betterment of us all. It is that simple, yet profound idea,
which compels me to advocate for a United North American nation.
I am not a historian, a politician or an industrialist. However,
I am a lover of history, politics and humanity. I also enjoy traveling,
and I have visited much of North America in my journeys. Politically,
I consider myself to be an independent, with a strong conviction
for the democratic principles that have shaped our North American
society. As such, I believe that people should be the ones who decide
the course of our future, and as one of the many people living in
this great continent, I am simply attempting to promote an idea
that I believe should be considered by us all.
